The disability care services in the Municipality of Umeå aim to be a resource that, through proximity and collaboration, empowers and strengthens people’s ability to live independently.

Ordinary housing is organized within the disability services department, which offers short-term supervision, short-term housing, respite care, home care services, and the National High School for Children and Youth. We offer daily activities/occupational programs, housing support, and an addiction support team for adults over 18 years of age.

Byttgränd’s short-term housing is located in Ersboda and is intended for children and young adults with disabilities based on decisions made under the LSS. We provide respite care for family members, which contributes to a sustainable and long-term support structure for both the individual and the family. We focus on the individual’s needs and circumstances and offer a safe, stimulating, and enriching environment. Near our facility, there are playgrounds, wooded areas, and a library, which allow for a variety of recreational activities and time spent outdoors.

Your Responsibilities

As a member of our team, you’ll be part of a group that works together to support each individual’s ability to live as independent and meaningful a life as possible. You’ll help create a stimulating and safe environment and actively participate in the daily lives of the children and young adults, which may include play, crafts, outdoor activities, and games. You’ll provide support with daily routines such as meals, cleaning, laundry, and personal care. We use an individualized approach based on evidence-based methods for autism and intellectual disabilities.

The job also involves documenting, writing case notes and implementation plans, planning activities, scheduling appointments for individuals based on approved services, and determining staffing requirements used for scheduling. In addition, you must be able to administer medications and maintain ongoing collaboration and communication with guardians.

Outwardly expressive behavior and heavy lifting occur in the workplace. Work hours are scheduled during the day, in the evening, and on-call nights, and include weekend shifts on 4 out of 8 weekends.

Joint planning takes place between our operations within Disability Care.

About You

You are a confident, calm, and empathetic person who creates structure and a sense of security for the individual. You interact with service users and their families professionally and adapt your approach to the individual’s needs. You collaborate well and contribute to a solution-focused and development-oriented environment where participation and self-determination are central. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

To be able to communicate with clients, family members, and colleagues, as well as to write and review care documentation, you must have a good command of the Swedish language, both spoken and written. 

Requirements

• Certified nursing assistant, social worker, preschool teacher, or other education deemed equivalent by the employer.
• Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
• Proficiency in spoken and written Swedish, to be able to communicate with clients, family members, and colleagues, as well as to document according to the organization’s procedures.

Desirable

• Experience working with children or adults with autism.
• Experience with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) or Sign Language as Augmentative and Alternative Communication (SL-AAC).
• Positive Behavior Support (PBS) or clarifying pedagogy.
• Experience with a low-affect approach when dealing with challenging behavior.
