The Disability Services Department in the Municipality of Umeå aims to be a resource that, through close collaboration, empowers and strengthens people’s ability to live independently. Here, you’ll be part of something meaningful every day; it’s a job where you’ll meet people who give back at least as much as you invest—often even more.
Short-term stays are one of the services provided under the LSS (Act on Support and Service for Certain People with Disabilities), designed to offer children and young adults a change of scenery and recreation, as well as to provide relief for their families. The program aims to support individuals with disabilities and strengthen their ability to live independently. This is achieved by offering opportunities for leisure activities and social interaction in a safe and home-like environment.
Byttgränd is a short-term residential facility for children and young adults with intellectual disabilities and autism. The facility can accommodate four to five individuals per day, ranging in age from approximately 6 to 20 years. During their stay, each child or young adult has their own bedroom and access to common areas.
Your Responsibilities
Together with your colleagues, you are responsible for ensuring that the children and young adults staying at the short-term residence have a safe, meaningful, and enriching experience. You will participate in planning and carrying out meaningful activities such as sports, walks, play in playgrounds, cultural events, crafts, and games. The job also includes standard household chores such as cooking, cleaning, and doing the dishes. Communication and collaboration with parents are an important part of the job. Medication administration is based on each individual’s self-care plan.
Mobility assistance and challenging behavior may occur in the workplace.
Scheduled work hours: day, evening, and weekend shifts. Joint planning takes place between our operations within Disability Care. During joint planning or in the future, combined on-call shifts may also be required.
About You
As a person, you are confident, curious, and committed. You have strong collaboration skills and a professional demeanor toward the children/young adults, colleagues, and other networks surrounding the children/young adults. It is important that you share our values, work toward established goals, strive for continuous improvement, and take responsibility for the shared work environment. Working in short-term care requires a high level of commitment and strong communication skills to get to know many individuals, and it demands the ability to collaborate effectively with other colleagues. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
In order to communicate with the children/young adults, colleagues, and other networks; write and review care documentation; and perform self-care tasks, you must have a good command of the Swedish language, both spoken and written.
