Support Assistant, Dragonskolan Short-Term Care, Disability Services
Umeå, Sverige
Type of Employment Part-time
Job position Support Assistant
Work model On location
Application due date 19 November 2026
Are you the one?

The Disability Services Department in the Municipality of Umeå aims to be a resource that, through close collaboration, empowers and strengthens people’s ability to live independently. Here, you get to be part of something meaningful every day; it’s a job where you meet people who give back at least as much as you invest—often even more.

Short-term supervision is a service provided under the LSS for young people over the age of 12 who are no longer eligible for after-school programs but who need supervision while their guardians are working or studying. The service can be provided before or after the school day, as well as on school holidays. Through individually tailored support, we work together to create a safe environment and meaningful leisure activities.

Dragonskolan’s short-term supervision program is located in the western part of town and currently consists of two units. One unit is located inside Dragonskolan, and the other unit—which is also our largest—is in a separate building on Kvarnvägen. The program serves young people aged 16–21.

We are now looking for a support assistant for our after-school program on Kvarnvägen!

Your Responsibilities

In the short-term supervision program, you will work to support and assist young people based on their individual needs. Your duties will vary and may include both social and physical support, including assistance with personal hygiene. You’ll prepare for the young people’s arrival, plan and carry out meaningful activities, and help create a safe and stimulating environment. The role also includes daily administrative tasks.

The work is physically demanding because you are constantly on the move, and some moving and lifting may be required, although heavy lifting is not a central part of the job. You must also be prepared to handle disruptive behavior and situations where threats or violence may occur.

Working hours are primarily on weekdays until 5:15 p.m., but some evening and weekend shifts are included in the position. Scheduling is coordinated among our operations within Disability Care.

About You

We are looking for someone who enjoys working both independently and collaboratively with others, and who wants to contribute to the development of our operations. You are confident, committed, and curious, with a focus on the young people’s needs and development. Through your professional approach, you build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with colleagues, young people, family members, and other stakeholders involved with the individual.

You have a flexible and solution-oriented work style, along with the ability to adapt to different situations. At the same time, you work in a structured manner, take responsibility for your tasks, and actively contribute to a positive work environment. It is important that you share our values, work toward established goals, and recognize the importance of a respectful and inclusive approach. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

In order to communicate with young people, colleagues, and others you work with, as well as to write and review care documentation, you must have a good command of the Swedish language, both spoken and written.
