The Disability Services Department in the Municipality of Umeå aims to be a resource that, through proximity and collaboration, empowers and strengthens people’s ability to live independently.

Älvans väg is located in Tomtebo, Umeå. Five residents with various disabilities live at the facility. They live in their own apartments within the facility and share common areas. The work involves promoting and striving daily to support the residents’ independence and assisting them in their daily lives. The role includes both caregiving and standard household tasks such as cleaning and cooking. There are no pets at the facility, and smoking is not permitted.

We are now looking for a new support assistant to join our team!

Your Responsibilities

You will guide and support individuals with physical, mental, and intellectual disabilities in their daily lives. You will work to help individuals participate in their daily lives and create opportunities for meaningful leisure activities and/or employment. The job includes hygiene and personal care tasks, heavy lifting and transfers, as well as standard household chores such as cleaning, laundry, and cooking. Your approach is characterized by flexibility, consistency, and a sense of security. You provide individual, social, and practical support to strengthen the person’s own abilities and promote independence.

In your role, you will plan, implement, document, follow up on, and evaluate these efforts on a daily basis, both independently and in collaboration with others. You are also expected to help create and maintain a clear structure within the organization.

Work hours are scheduled for day, evening, and weekend shifts. Joint planning with other departments may occur.

Heavy lifting is required; transfer aids must be used.

About You

You have strong collaboration skills and maintain a professional demeanor toward residents, family members, and other stakeholders involved with our residents. You are a good teacher, dedicated, and willing to share our values, work toward set goals, and strive for continuous improvement. Being solution-focused, curious, positive, and proactive is an important part of the job and contributes to a positive work environment. The work can be stressful at times, so your ability to handle this is important. Great importance is placed on personal suitability.

In order to communicate with clients, colleagues, and other networks, write and review

care documentation, and receive medication delegation, you must have a good command of the

Swedish language, both spoken and written.

Requirements

  • The Health and Social Care Program, the Child and Leisure Program, the Social Work Program, or other education deemed equivalent by the employer.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities or other work experience deemed equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Training in the areas of autism, pedagogy, or threats and violence.
  • Experience with the Low-Affect Approach (LAB) for managing outwardly aggressive behavior and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
