The disability care services in the Municipality of Umeå aim to be a resource that, through proximity and collaboration, empowers and strengthens people’s ability to live independently.

Ordinary housing is organized within the disability services department, which offers short-term supervision, short-term housing, respite care, home care services, and the National High School for Children and Youth. We offer daily activities/occupational programs, housing support, and an addiction support team for adults over 18 years of age.

Kandidatvägen is a short-term residence under the LSS located in Ålidhem, with wooded areas, playgrounds, and a library just around the corner. The purpose of the program is to offer adolescents and young adults with physical and mental disabilities a change of scenery, a sense of community, and the opportunity to develop their independence, while also providing relief for family members. Here, you’ll provide personalized support where every interaction matters, and where you’ll work alongside dedicated colleagues to help create a meaningful and safe daily life for our young people. Your Responsibilities

At Kandidatvägen, you’ll work to strengthen the young people’s ability to live as independently as possible. Your responsibilities will vary and may include both social and physical support. You’ll plan and carry out meaningful activities and help create a safe and stimulating environment. Your responsibilities also include assisting with personal hygiene, household chores such as cooking, cleaning, and doing dishes, as well as daily administrative tasks and documentation.

The job requires you to be on the move throughout the day and to assist with transfers. You must also be prepared to handle situations where disruptive behavior, threats, or violence may occur.

You will collaborate with colleagues and maintain a professional demeanor toward clients, family members, and other stakeholders. Collaboration and joint planning with other support and care services are part of the role.

The work is scheduled for days, evenings, weekends, and includes on-call shifts.

Who are you?

We’re looking for someone who is calm, confident, and committed, with a focus on the young people. You have strong collaboration skills and a professional demeanor. You’re resilient under stress and handle challenging situations with composure, even when faced with disruptive behavior. Furthermore, you are flexible and solution-oriented, with the ability to adapt and create a meaningful daily life for the young people. Since many of our young people use sign language and assistive devices in their communication, we would prefer that you have experience working with these tools. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.

Requirements

• Certified nursing assistant, social worker, preschool teacher, or other education deemed equivalent by the employer
• Experience working with people with disabilities
• Good spoken and written Swedish skills, to be able to communicate with clients, family members, and colleagues, as well as document according to the organization’s procedures

Desirable

• Experience with alternative and augmentative communication (AAC)
• Special Sign Language as an Alternative and Augmentative Communication (TAKK)
• Experience with low-affect interaction (LAB)
• Experience working with adolescents/young adults with disabilities
