The Disability Services Department in the Municipality of Umeå aims to be a resource that, through close collaboration, empowers and strengthens people’s ability to live independently. Here, you’ll be part of something meaningful every day; it’s a job where you’ll meet people who give back at least as much as you invest—often even more.
Short-term stays are one of the services provided under the LSS (Act on Support and Service for Certain People with Disabilities), designed to offer children and youth a change of scenery, recreation, and relief for their families. The program aims to support individuals with disabilities and strengthen their ability to live independently. This is achieved by offering opportunities for leisure activities and social interaction in a safe and home-like environment.
Kandidatvägen is a short-term residential facility located in Ålidhem, with wooded areas, playgrounds, and a library just around the corner. Here, you’ll provide personalized support where every interaction matters, and where you’ll work alongside dedicated colleagues to help create a meaningful and safe daily life for our young people.

Your Responsibilities
At Kandidatvägen, you’ll work to strengthen the young people’s ability to live as independently as possible. You’ll plan and carry out meaningful activities and help create a safe and stimulating environment. Your responsibilities also include cooking, cleaning, and doing dishes, assisting with personal hygiene, as well as daily administrative tasks and documentation. Communication and collaboration with parents are an important part of the job.
The job involves being on the move throughout the day and using assistive devices to help with mobility. You must also be prepared to handle situations where disruptive behavior may occur.
Scheduled work hours: day, evening, weekend, and on-call shifts. Joint scheduling takes place between our operations within Disability Care.
About You
As a person, you are confident, curious, and committed, with a focus on the young people. We also look for someone who is flexible and solution-oriented, and who takes responsibility for the shared work environment. You have strong collaboration skills and a professional demeanor. Since many of our young people use sign language and assistive devices in their communication, we would prefer that you have experience working with these tools. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.
To be able to communicate with the children/youth, colleagues, and other networks; write and review care documentation; and perform self-care tasks, you must have a good command of the Swedish language, both spoken and written.
