The Disability Services Department in the Municipality of Umeå aims to be a resource that, through proximity and collaboration, empowers and strengthens people’s ability to live independently.

Uttervägen is a group home under the LSS (Act Concerning Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments) that specializes in intellectual disabilities. The residence is home to young, active residents who participate in many leisure activities. All residents live in their own apartments and share common areas.

Do you have experience in disability care, a flexible mindset, and enjoy active workdays? Then we think you’ll enjoy working with us!

Your Responsibilities

As a support assistant, you’ll assist residents in their daily lives based on approved support services. This may involve assistance with meals, cleaning, laundry, personal care, and mobility, as well as planning and carrying out activities. You’ll provide both social and practical support, focusing on strengthening and making the most of the individual’s own abilities, as well as creating good conditions for independence and participation.

The role includes participating in activities based on the clients’ interests and needs—for example, at the stable, at the gym, at home, or outdoors. The work also includes documentation and record-keeping, working with implementation plans, and medication management. Physically demanding tasks and challenging behaviors may occur in the workplace.

Work shifts are scheduled during the day, in the evening, on weekends, and for on-call nights. Joint planning takes place between our programs within disability care.

About You

You have strong collaboration skills and maintain a professional demeanor toward service users, family members, and other stakeholders involved with our service users. You are committed and willing to share our values, work toward established goals, and contribute to continuous improvement. You have a solution-focused and flexible approach to work and enjoy creating and maintaining structure. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.

To communicate with clients, family members, and colleagues, write and review care documentation, and receive medication delegation, you must have a good command of the Swedish language, both spoken and written.

Requirements

  • The Health and Social Care Program, the Child and Leisure Program, the Social Work Program, or another educational program that we deem equivalent
  • Several years of experience working in disability care
  • Class B driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Training in clear communication pedagogy and/or positive behavior support
  • Experience with planning, follow-up, and analysis, as well as working on continuous improvement in close collaboration with colleagues and other professionals

Pets may be present in the workplace, so you should not have allergies.
