The Disability Services Department in the Municipality of Umeå aims to be a resource that, through close collaboration, empowers and strengthens people’s ability to live independently. Here, you get to be part of something meaningful every day; it’s a job where you meet people who give back at least as much as you invest—often even more.
The National High School for Students with Mobility Impairments is a national high school for students who need an adapted education due to a physical disability. Umeå is one of four locations in Sweden that has a national high school for students with mobility impairments. Students who live a long way from the school are granted a place in the student residence.
Your Responsibilities
In your role as a support assistant, you will meet the students’ needs for support and care and help ensure they have meaningful leisure activities at the student residence. You will also assist in planning the students’ schoolwork and daily lives. Our approach aims to prepare students for their future adult lives. The job includes standard household chores. The work may involve physically demanding tasks; mobility aids are used.
Scheduled work hours: day, evening, and weekend shifts. Joint planning takes place between our programs within Disability Services.
About You
We are looking for someone who can work independently while also collaborating within
the staff team and with other stakeholders. You are a confident adult, a good role model, and you have
the ability to connect with the students. You see each individual and help create a safe environment at
the student residence. You take great personal responsibility and are patient when interacting with the students. You should be a driven person who takes an educational approach in your interactions with students. You must be attentive to their needs while also preparing them for adulthood. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
In order for you to communicate with students, colleagues, and other networks surrounding our students,
write and review social documentation, and perform self-care tasks, you must have
a strong command of the Swedish language, both spoken and written.
