The City of Umeå currently has six short-term residential facilities for children and youth under the Act on Support and Service for Certain Persons with Disabilities (LSS). At our short-term residential facilities, we support children and youth in developing their independence based on their individual circumstances.
Sveagatan is a facility that offers short-term stays for young people under the LSS. The purpose of this program is to provide relief for family members while offering the young people a change of scenery, a sense of community, and the opportunity to develop their independence.
We are now looking for a support assistant to join our dedicated team!
Your Responsibilities
As a support assistant, you will work alongside colleagues to strengthen the young people’s ability to live as independently as possible. Your responsibilities will vary and may include both social and practical support, depending on each young person’s needs.
You’ll participate in planning and carrying out meaningful activities such as sports, walks, cultural events, crafts, or games. Your duties also include assisting with personal hygiene, household chores such as cooking, cleaning, and doing the dishes, as well as documenting activities according to established procedures.
The job requires you to be very active throughout the day, and it may involve heavy lifting and moving residents at the workplace. You must also be prepared to handle situations where disruptive behavior, threats, or violence may occur.
You will collaborate with colleagues and maintain a professional demeanor toward clients, family members, and other stakeholders. Collaboration and joint planning with other support and care services are part of the role.
Work hours are scheduled for days, evenings, and weekends, and the position includes on-call shifts.
About You
We are looking for someone who is calm, confident, and dedicated—with a focus on the service recipients. You have strong collaboration skills, a professional demeanor, and enjoy working closely with colleagues, service users, and family members. You understand that building relationships takes time and use creativity and a playful approach in your interactions. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.
