The Disability Services Department in the Municipality of Umeå aims to be a resource that, through proximity and collaboration, empowers and strengthens people’s ability to live independent lives.

FruktvägenandCirkelgatan are children’s residences under Section 9, Paragraph 8 of the LSS—specialized housing for children and youth with disabilities. Staff are available around the clock to provide support and care based on each child’s individual needs. We offer a safe home environment where children have the opportunity for social interaction, development, and meaningful activities, both inside and outside the residence. Together, we work to foster participation, strengthen the children’s independence, and provide them with the best possible daily life.

We are now looking for three support assistants!

Your responsibilities

As a support assistant with us at Fruktvägen/Cirkelgatan, you will work to ensure that every child has a safe, nurturing, and meaningful daily life. Together as a team, we create the best conditions for the children to grow, develop, and be active participants in their lives—every day.

The role includes, among other things:

  • Supporting and participating with the children in their daily activities, both at home and outdoors
  • Accompanying them to school, and acting as a contact person in meetings with, for example, the school and social services
  • Assisting with personal hygiene
  • Being responsible for routine household chores such as cooking, cleaning, and doing the dishes
  • Maintain close communication with the children’s parents and relatives
  • Document in medical records and care plans
  • Administer medication and manage medical conditions such as epilepsy and kidney disease
  • Collaborate with manager and colleagues

Important information

  • Outwardly aggressive and self-harming behavior occurs
  • Work hours are scheduled for day, evening, weekend, and on-call night shifts
  • Joint planning takes place between our operations within disability care

About you

To succeed and thrive in your work with us, you must have strong collaboration skills and be flexible. Of course, you treat the children, their families, and other stakeholders with professionalism. You are committed, share our values, and want to work with your manager and colleagues to develop and achieve set goals. Since the children are quick and active, you need to be physically fit to keep up with their pace. Great importance will be placed on personal suitability.

Requirements

  • Certified nursing assistant, childcare worker, teacher, or other education deemed equivalent by the employer
  • Experience working in LSS services, schools, preschools, or elder care
  • Good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written, to communicate with clients, family members, and colleagues, write and review care documentation, and receive medication delegation
  • Ability to swim, as bathing with the children is part of the job duties

Desirable

  • Experience working with children with disabilities
  • Experience with epilepsy, children with challenging behaviors, and/or AAC
  • Class B driver’s license, as our children’s programs use a car
