The disability care services in the Municipality of Umeå aim to be a resource that, through proximity and collaboration, empowers and strengthens people’s ability to live independently.

Ordinary housing is organized within the disability services department, which offers short-term supervision, short-term housing, respite care, home care services, and the National High School for Children and Youth. We offer daily activities/occupational programs, housing support, and an addiction resource team for adults over 18 years of age.

We will be launching a staff pool within the Children and Young Adults division of Disability Care, which will cover for the absence of regular staff in our short-term housing and short-term supervision programs for children and young adults. That’s why we’re now looking for several support assistants who want to be part of this journey from the very beginning!

Your Responsibilities

Together with your colleagues, you will support each individual’s ability to live as independently as possible and contribute to a safe and stimulating environment. You will plan and carry out individually tailored activities—such as walks, play, crafts, and games—to promote social participation and create meaningful leisure time. The role includes providing support and assistance with communication, personal care, and meals. An important part of the job is also collaborating with parents and other support networks around the individual to ensure they receive the necessary support.

The role also includes documentation, record-keeping, developing implementation plans, and medication management.

As a person, you’re calm, reliable, and dedicated—with your heart in the right place. You have strong collaboration skills and a professional demeanor toward clients, family members, and other stakeholders. Furthermore, working in our programs for children and young adults requires good physical fitness, and heavy lifting may be required. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Requirements

• The Health and Social Care Program, the Child and Leisure Program, or other education deemed equivalent by the employer.
• Experience working with individuals with disabilities under the LSS, in schools, or in other settings deemed equivalent.
• Good command of the Swedish language, both spoken and written, so that you can communicate with clients, family members, and colleagues, as well as write and review care documentation.

Desirable Qualifications

• Previous experience working with people with autism
• Experience working with clear-language pedagogy
• Experience handling outwardly aggressive behavior, threats, and violent situations

Employment Information

We are seeking candidates for several full-time positions, starting October 1, 2026, or as agreed. The positions are scheduled for day/evening/weekend shifts or night shifts on weekdays and weekends. In the application form below, you can select which position(s) you are interested in.

As an employee in the staff pool, you are covered by a pool agreement that includes a salary supplement of 2,500 SEK (full-time) and reimbursement for work-related travel.
