Are you the one?

The Disability Services Department in the Municipality of Umeå aims to be a resource that, through close collaboration, empowers and strengthens people’s ability to live independently.

We are now looking for new employees!

Here’s what you’ll get

With us, you’ll get much more than just a job—you’ll be part of a meaningful journey!

  • If you build a trusting relationship, you’ll earn great trust in return
  • If you show patience, you’ll be there when small steps turn into big breakthroughs
  • If you provide structure, you’ll see anxiety replaced by calm and trust
  • If you work with your heart, you’ll have a work environment where your efforts truly make a difference

Your responsibilities

The program is a comprehensive solution for an individual, where both short-term housing and short-term supervision (leisure activities) are provided by the same staff team. You and your colleagues will work closely with a child in a home-like environment. The child’s disability means you will encounter a complex behavioral profile, which can lead to challenging situations and places high demands on professional conduct, patience, and relationship-building.

Your role involves:

  • supporting the child in daily life and strengthening the child’s ability to be independent
  • creating a safe, predictable, and stimulating environment
  • planning and carrying out individually tailored activities such as play, crafts, games, and walks
  • work with structure and distraction to prevent and manage situations that might otherwise lead to outbursts
  • collaborate closely with parents and the child’s support network to ensure comprehensive support
  • perform household chores and provide personal care/hygiene as needed
  • document, maintain records, create implementation plans, and manage medications

Work hours are scheduled for day, evening, night, on-call shifts, and weekends. Joint planning takes place between our disability care operations.

About you

As a person, you are confident, calm, and dedicated. You have strong collaboration skills and a professional demeanor toward clients, family members, and other stakeholders. You share the organization’s values and contribute to its development through continuous improvement. You have previously worked in environments where challenging behaviors may occur and have the ability to handle these situations professionally. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

To communicate with clients, family members, and colleagues, as well as to write and review care documentation, you must have strong written and spoken Swedish skills and good English skills.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma (or completion of adult education in healthcare and social care if you do not have a high school diploma)
  • Experience working with children and youth with disabilities
  • Experience using a low-affect approach when dealing with challenging behavior as well as in threatening and violent situations

Preferred:

  • Certified childcare worker, nursing assistant, or other training deemed equivalent by the employer
  • Experience working with children/adults with autism
  • Experience with AAC/TAAC, Positive Behavior Support (PBS), and/or clear pedagogy

To ensure that the candidates invited to an interview are those who best meet the requirements and qualifications for the position, we use screening questions. The questions are designed based on these requirements and qualifications. It is therefore important that you answer the questions thoroughly and that the skills you list are supported by information in your resume. Incomplete or inadequate answers may result in your application not proceeding further in the process.

Before an offer of employment is made, we ask you to provide an extract from the police criminal records. This is done as a final step in the recruitment process.

NOTE! Do you have protected personal data? Please contact Recruitment Support at tel 090-16 10 99 or at rekrytering@umea.se, and they will assist you with a secure application process.

Selection and interviews are conducted on an ongoing basis.

We warmly welcome your application!
