Disability Services in the Municipality of Umeå aims to be a resource that, through proximity and collaboration, empowers and strengthens people’s ability to live independently.
Standard housing is organized within disability care and includes short-term supervision, short-term housing, respite care, home care services, and the National High School for children and young adults. We offer daily activities/occupational therapy, housing support, and an addiction resource team for adults over 18.
Byttgränd’s short-term housing is located in Ersboda and is intended for children and young adults with disabilities based on decisions under the LSS. We offer respite care for family members, which contributes to a sustainable and long-term support structure for both the individual and the family. With us, the individual’s needs and circumstances are at the center, and we offer a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment. Nearby, there are playgrounds, wooded areas, and a library, which allow for a variety of recreational activities and time spent outdoors.
We are now looking to expand our team with a support teacher!
Your Responsibilities
As a member of our team, you will be part of a group that works together to support each individual’s ability to live as independent and meaningful a life as possible. You will contribute to a stimulating and safe environment and actively participate in the daily lives of the children and young people, which may include play, crafts, outdoor activities, and games. You will provide support with daily routines such as meals, cleaning, laundry, and personal care. We work using an individualized approach based on evidence-based methods for autism and intellectual disabilities. Another important part of the job is collaboration and communication with guardians.
The job also involves documenting, writing medical records, creating implementation plans, and managing medications. You will also be responsible for administrative tasks, such as planning activities, scheduling individuals based on approved services, and determining staffing requirements used for team scheduling.
As a support educator, you will work on continuous improvements from a quality perspective regarding educational methods and communication, documentation, and the onboarding of new colleagues in the organization. You will guide colleagues in educational methods that are proven and recommended by the National Board of Health and Welfare. Your approach is characterized by flexibility, continuity, and security. You will both engage in practical interventions and guide other staff toward educational solutions to challenges in client-centered work by applying various educational methods.
As a support educator, you will be part of a network with other support educators where we offer continuous peer support and professional development.
Outwardly aggressive behavior and heavy lifting occur in the workplace. Work hours are scheduled for days, evenings, and on-call nights, and weekend shifts are scheduled for 4 out of 8 weekends.
