Traffic planner to Umeå - help shape a growing city in the north!

Umeå is a city in development. New neighborhoods are emerging, central areas are densifying and sustainable transport is a natural part of the city's future. Within Streets and Parks, we are responsible for the planning, development and management of the municipality's public outdoor environments - streets, squares, parks and green areas. We are about 125 committed employees who work every day for a safe, beautiful and functional urban environment.

Now we are looking for a brave traffic planner who wants to be involved and make a real difference.

Do you not live in Umeå's immediate area today? Don't worry - many of us didn't from the start either. There is room here for new perspectives, new colleagues and new chapters of life.

Your assignment

As a traffic planner, you will be part of a working group with broad and collective expertise in planning the municipality's streets and traffic systems. You work, for example, with issues relating to road safety, walking, cycling and public transport, behavioral impact, accessibility and accessibility for all modes of transport. A central part of the assignment is to weigh different interests against each other and make wise priorities that follow Umeå's overall goal of sustainable urban development.

In the role of traffic planner, you work both independently and in close collaboration with colleagues to develop solutions that promote sustainable travel in the municipality. You initiate, lead and participate in investigations at various levels, as well as implement and follow up projects in the field of transport. Collaboration is a central part of the assignment - both internally within the municipality, together with the municipal companies and with other actors. The role also involves dialogue with citizens, politicians and in some cases the media, which contributes to a varied and community-oriented working day.

We shape the service partly based on your unique experience and your areas of interest, so that you get the right conditions to contribute in the best way and at the same time develop in the long term.

About you

We are looking for you who have a genuine interest in sustainable urban development and how transport systems can contribute to a better living environment. You enjoy working independently with investigations, but also in collaboration with others in planning and development projects.

We also look for you to have:

  • a civil engineering degree in urban planning, roads and water or other relevant college or university education in urban planning that we, in combination with experience, consider equivalent
  • good communication skills, express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish, and have good knowledge of English
  • good experience of working in Office 365

It is meritorious if you have a few years of work experience in traffic planning or related areas and also have experience of detailed plans or street construction projects. To thrive with us, we believe that you communicate clearly and have the ability to motivate and give constructive feedback, as well as being good at building trust and creating good collaborations. You are confident in dealing with complex issues, reconsidering decisions and adapting when conditions change. You have the ability to plan and prioritize effectively and enjoy both independent work and working in teams.

Do you want to be part of a work that contributes to making Umeå an even better place to live and work in? Then we are looking for you!

Welcome with your application!
