Disability care for adults consists of about 80 group and service homes for people who have been granted interventions according to LSS. We are about 700 employees in the area, where staff responsibility is currently divided between about 40 unit managers. The business works actively to create the conditions for present leadership. We are convinced that proximity to users and staff is an important success factor in our path to goal achievement for those we exist for.

About the job

As a unit manager with us, you are responsible for the quality of the business, staff and finances in a number of special homes. How many employees you will have depends a little on the target group and how large the homes are, but most managers with us have about 20-25 employees. We want our managers to prioritize a physically present leadership and work continuously with quality and work environment issues.

The managerial assignment with us is developing and flexible, you get to work with both quality and personnel issues. You have the opportunity to influence the development of the business area but also to develop the everyday life of those who live in our businesses together with your colleagues. Your tasks may, for example, involve:

  • systematically following up so that the goals for quality, work environment and finances are achieved
  • ensuring that decided activities are implemented
  • giving employees guidance and feedback in the work so that the care work is developed
  • communicating values and encouraging dialogue, cooperation and learning.

There are of course times when the unit manager assignment is challenging. One such challenge can be the labor shortage that prevails and you will have to work a lot with staff planning, staffing and recruitment.

To support you in your work, you have your unit manager colleagues, you are part of a team where you have a dialog and collaborate on common issues. You will report to one of two assistant managers who will follow up and support you in your assignment. There are also support functions in administration, finance and HR.

About you

We are looking for you who have a university education, perhaps as a social worker but otherwise an equivalent education. We prefer that you have experience as a manager and it is good if you have experience of working with the target group. The most important thing is that you are passionate about the field of activity.

As a unit manager, you often work at a high pace and you get to be involved in the fact that conditions can change quickly. To thrive in this role, you must therefore appreciate being challenged and be solution-focused as a person. You are clear in your leadership role and you work purposefully and systematically with continuous improvements. You are also unpretentious and able to prioritize in pressured situations.

As a manager in Umeå municipality, we want you to represent the municipality in a trustworthy and positive way. You put the citizen benefit in focus and have a dialog with your employees about goals and plans so that they understand their role and importance for the whole. It is also important that you stand for common values and are a role model for your colleagues. You encourage your employees to curiosity, creativity and collaboration and make both the individual employee and the work team visible.
