The Public Authority for Support and Care has approximately 270 employees with diverse areas of expertise who are responsible for investigating and following up on interventions for adults, children, and youth.

We are now seeking a unit manager for Social Services Act (SoL) assessments for adults (18+) with a focus on addiction, crime, and domestic violence. The unit employs approximately 30 social workers, 2 unit managers, and 2 team leaders responsible for intake, investigations, and follow-up of interventions under the Social Services Act (SoL) and, in certain cases, the Act on Care for Substance Abusers (LVM) and the Act on Care for Young People (LVU).

Your Responsibilities

Within the area of public administration, a quality improvement initiative is underway aimed at coordinating services and utilizing diverse expertise to meet the needs of each individual. This means that if you’re interested in this role, you’ll be part of an important change initiative. Part of this development toward coordination also involves adapting our approach and working closely together within the public administration sector to create the conditions for new ways of working. This means that this particular role will be structured with the new, coordinated public administration model in mind. Your role will be to lead your team toward the vision in close collaboration with other units and fellow managers.

As a unit manager, you have employer responsibility for operations, finances, and personnel, and you are a member of the deputy director’s management team. You have overall responsibility for ensuring that work is conducted in accordance with the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing the operations. Together with your staff, safety representatives, and fellow managers, you will work on an ongoing basis to address workplace safety issues and promote a positive work environment within the unit. The role also involves driving, planning, evaluating, analyzing, and developing the operational area to meet the needs of the target group and address future challenges. You will have access to support functions in areas such as finance, quality, and workplace safety. You will participate in various networks and working groups related to your assignment and play a key role in fostering effective collaboration with other units and operations both within and outside the municipality.

You are interested in both leadership and social work and prioritize the well-being of citizens. To succeed in this role, you are a hands-on manager and a natural role model. You are responsive, organized, and have the ability to harness your employees’ motivation, resources, and desire for growth. You build strong relationships and trust by being clear and respectful in your interactions, fostering mutual trust with your employees. You place particular emphasis on fostering a positive collaborative environment, both internally and externally.

We are looking for someone who:

• is a social worker or has equivalent training

It is advantageous if you:

• have several years of experience in public administration within social services
• have prior experience working as a manager or experience leading/coordinating colleagues in development work/processes, or have completed an internal trainee program for future managers
• have leadership experience in a politically governed organization
