Umeå Public Library consists of ten local libraries, a library bus, and Umeå City Library, which is located in the Väven cultural center, a building created for cross-border collaboration. In Väven, everyone is welcome to take part in knowledge and culture in various forms. Public library activities in Umeå municipality consist of five units, two of which are at Umeå City Library, Väven Lär and Väven Läs. Work tasks As Head of Unit for Väven Lär, you are responsible for the management, planning, coordination and development of activities within your unit. You have budget, personnel and work environment responsibilities. You will work closely with the other heads of unit and be part of the library's management team. You will report directly to the Head of Library. You are responsible for developing the activities of the City Library in collaboration with the Head of the Reading Unit. Together with your approximately 20 colleagues, you are responsible for ensuring that the library's non-fiction collection is up-to-date, relevant and characterized by quality and versatility. The unit also includes the public library's temporary staff pool. The unit's mission includes working for digital participation, making e-services and digital resources available, reaching out to people whose mother tongue is not Swedish and offering activities for them. Employees who work with communication and the Umeå region's common library data system and website are included in the unit. Väven Lär also collaborates with the unit Sweden's depot library and loan center, which has a national mission. Qualifications We are looking for you with an academic degree in library and information science or other higher education that the employer considers equivalent. You have experience as a manager and documented good results in managing people and operations. Experience in librarianship, particularly in library management, would be an asset. Your ability to think strategically and long-term is good. You see the big picture and can manage complex processes even in demanding situations. You are driven and committed to strategic issues related to libraries. You have a sense of what motivates and engages your staff and demonstrate clarity in your leadership. You also have an interest in and ability to market the library. You are responsive and communicative with good interpersonal skills. You have good knowledge of Swedish and English and can express yourself well in speech and writing.
