The Urban Planning Administration in Umeå municipality consists of the activities Building Permits, Detailed Planning, Surveying, Environmental and Health Protection and a staff with various support functions. The Urban Planning Administration consists of about 200 employees who contribute to Umeå's continued development and who make a difference for residents, visitors and businesses.

About the jobAs Director of Urban Planning, you lead one of the municipality's most socially influential administrations. The pace is fast and there are great opportunities to make a difference - in both small and large issues.

You are responsible for the whole of the urban development area, where you have overall responsibility for leading, developing and coordinating the administration's activities in accordance with politically made decisions and the municipality's strategic goals. You translate the political objectives into operational activities and ensure that the work of the administration is based on a solid knowledge base and follow-up system. To achieve Umeå's goals, you build relationships and collaborations with other administrations, companies, authorities and the business community.

You and your colleagues in the administration work with complex and long-term urban development issues with a focus on Umeå's growth, where social, ecological, cultural and economic sustainability are important starting points.

You lead the administration's management team and you have personnel responsibility for five employees. You report to the city director, are part of her management team and in the municipal group-wide service personnel management.

You work closely with the political leadership and are a rapporteur for the building committee and the environmental and health protection committee.

Who are you? We are looking for a curious, communicative and committed leader who thrives in a complex environment where many perspectives must be weighed together. You create clarity, direction and participation - and you have both the courage and the will to drive change where needed. As a leader, you are solution-oriented, driven and you have a good ability to bring together different perspectives and interests and create a clear drive forward in a common direction.

You have a strong commitment to urban development issues, to the municipality's role as a development actor and a good ability to think strategically, long-term and commercially about urban development issues. You are used to leading through others, collaborating broadly and you have the ability to drive both administration-specific issues and the overall perspective of what is best for Umeå.

We are looking for you who have:

• relevant academic education, for example in urban planning, technology, law, social sciences or the equivalent
• experience in leading managers
• experience from the urban planning area
• experience and good knowledge of how a politically controlled business works
• good ability to express yourself in speech and writing

The position is security classified and therefore requires Swedish citizenship.
