Company description

Enabling fossil-free energy that drives society forward - that is our purpose. We are looking for talented students who want to help us on our journey towards fossil-free By writing a thesis at Vattenfall, you get a unique opportunity to contribute to our purpose.

About the role

About the thesis

The group has the overall design responsibility for control, regulation, signaling and alarm management of the plants at Forsmark.

In the nuclear power industry, many plant changes take place in project form where requirements management is a critical part of the work. Today, requirements are often handled in Word documents and requirement matrices in Excel format. These have no intelligence, making follow-up and traceability difficult and unstructured. There are advanced tools such as IBM DOORS, but these are often too complex for our needs.

The purpose of this thesis is to develop a user-friendly tool or template that supports requirements management according to the V-model (Model for Verification and Validation). The tool should enable:

  • Decomposition of overall requirements into underlying requirements.
  • Traceability between requirements and their origin.
  • Visual overview, e.g. requirements tree or links between documents.
  • Documentation of why a requirement exists.
  • How a requirement is verified or validated.

The output of the job should be:

  • A concrete tool or template (e.g. in Excel or other established software).
  • A method for requirements decomposition and traceability.
  • An evaluation of existing tools/methods.
  • A visual model (preferably based on the V model) showing the relationships of the requirements.

This assignment is for 1 student.

About Vattenfall

At Vattenfall, we are committed to enabling fossil freedom. To succeed, as one of Europe's largest energy companies, we must first become completely fossil-free ourselves. But that is not enough. To contribute to a fossil-free society, we need to do more than just focus on sustainable energy production.

Because we are convinced that we need to enable fossil-free, we need to look at the challenge from a broader perspective than just producing energy in a sustainable way.

Join us on the road to fossil-free.
