Company description

Vattenfall is one of Europe's largest producers and retailers of electricity and heat. Our main markets are Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and the UK. The Vattenfall Group has around 21,000 employees. We have been electrifying industries, powering homes and transforming lives through innovation for over a century. We now want to enable a fossil-free future and we are driving the transition to a sustainable energy system.

About the role

You might think that an energy company only works with energy. But to live fossil-free tomorrow, we need to think outside the box today. That drives everything we do at Vattenfall. That's why we're working with partners outside the energy sector to reduce carbon emissions and enable a fossil-free future. We are now looking for a senior member of our Swedish Public & Regulatory Affairs (PRA) team.

The role of Public & Regulatory Affairs Advisor

The PRA unit supports Vattenfall's interests through transparent political and regulatory monitoring and advocacy. Our main tasks are to:

  • Monitor policy, legislation and societal issues
  • Evaluate regulatory issues to identify challenges and opportunities
  • Develop positions for internal and external communication
  • Influence political and regulatory processes to reach our goal of a fossil-free life within one generation.

In the role, you will be responsible for coordinating input, consultation responses and positions for the issues you monitor, always from a holistic perspective on Vattenfall's business. We work in close cooperation with Vattenfall's various business areas. The work takes place in an international environment, although the focus is Sweden, EU-related issues are also dealt with together with our international operations.

The role also includes maintaining and developing contacts with external stakeholders such as politicians and officials in the Government Offices, the Riksdag, authorities and interest organizations within the issues you are given special responsibility for. You will represent Vattenfall in various external contexts. The role is communicative and collaborative and we expect you to be happy to share your knowledge internally and externally in various contexts. You will work closely with communicators and the press department as well as with lawyers and experts.

The PRA unit in Sweden currently consists of 9 people and is part of the Communications department.

Requirements

To be successful in the role, we see that you need a university degree (e.g. in political science, economics, engineering or law). You also have several years of work experience with documented experience of lobbying and advocacy work, preferably in energy issues in a broad perspective. Furthermore, you have very good communication skills in writing and in speech, mainly in Swedish but also in English.

We see it as particularly meritorious if you have:

  • Experience from the energy industry and/or experience from the Government Offices or relevant authorities
  • Experience in leadership, such as project manager or manager
  • A broad network with relevant stakeholders.

Personal qualities

We are looking for someone who wants to work in a role where you can use your analytical and strategic skills and deal with many parallel issues. To be successful in the role, you need to be both accurate, see details and manage to keep a helicopter perspective. As a person, you are positive, solution-oriented and proactive. You have a very good ability to effectively absorb large amounts of written information and thrive in a role with many different internal and external interfaces. Finally, you have the ability to create long-term relationships and show respect for complementary opinions.
