Company description

Vattenfall Nuclear Fuel AB is part of the Business Unit (BU) Vattenfall Power Solutions which is a business unit of about 450 people within the Business Area (BA) Vattenfall Generation.

The focus of Vattenfall Nuclear Fuel is to procure, dimension and deliver nuclear fuel to Vattenfall's nuclear power plants. We work actively with continuous improvement initiatives and development of our models, where our work and competence create great value for Vattenfall and its investments.

About the role

Do you want to contribute to a fossil-free future? Do you have experience in software development and an interest in nuclear physics while thriving in a role where you get to use your analytical skills and develop your technical competence?

Vattenfall Nuclear Fuel (VNF) plays a crucial role in Vattenfall's work towards fossil-free. Our mission is to procure, design and deliver nuclear fuel to Vattenfall's nuclear power plants. We also offer technical analyses and other expert services in the nuclear fuel field. At VNF, we have several experienced and dedicated teams, where we with different backgrounds and perspectives come together around our common goal of delivering nuclear fuel to Vattenfall's nuclear power plants and creating the conditions for a fossil-free future.

In the "Methods & Systems" unit, we are responsible for managing calculation codes and tools for nuclear fuel design. Our computational codes are also used for engineering analyses in areas such as reactor physics, safety analysis and thermal hydraulics. In addition to this, we manage and develop a small number of administrative software.

The unit adapts external software to the fuel purchased by VNF, as well as creates its own programs and tools that support the core and fuel operations at Vattenfall. These solutions are used both internally within VNF and distributed to Vattenfall's nuclear power plants, where we also provide support to our users. Within "Methods & Systems" we combine technical excellence and innovative solutions to drive development forward - both for our work and for the energy supply of the future.

We offer you an opportunity to work on exciting, complex and challenging projects in the nuclear power industry. You will be part of a highly competent team that values collaboration, a positive work climate and a strong community. We also offer good opportunities for further development in related areas, where your development and learning are in focus. When you join us, we make sure you get a solid introduction, where you learn from our experienced and committed colleagues. Here you get a workplace where both your development and well-being are a priority.

Your tasks

As a developer, you will work with a wide variety of code bases and projects. Tasks include adapting and further developing external software purchased by the company or creating your own tools and programs from scratch. We work closely with end users, who are usually located within the department or at the nuclear power plants, and the goal is to deliver quality-assured software solutions that are used in technical analyzes.

Your main tasks include:

  • To be involved in the driving of software projects and within this also the development of requirements in collaboration with the customer.
  • Programming and development of software in mainly object-oriented Python.
  • Quality assurance through testing and review of jointly developed software.
  • Documentation of functionality and methodology related to developed code.
  • Review of software-related documentation and reports.

You also participate in our ongoing work to update and improve our working methods, where, for example, process development is part of the tasks.

Travel may occur to some extent in the service.

We know that our employees are the key to our success. Your development is important to us, so we will always encourage you to use your skills and provide you with opportunities to grow through new challenges, training and skills transfer. With us, you will be trusted to act with great freedom and responsibility, which, together with good working conditions and mutual trust, provides a high level of flexibility and work-life balance.
