Company description
Enabling fossil-free energy that drives society forward - that is our purpose. We are looking for talented students who want to help us on our journey towards fossil-free By writing a thesis at Vattenfall, you will have a unique opportunity to contribute to our purpose.
About the role
About the thesis
The Plant Development unit is tasked with securing future plant design by proactively developing the electricity grid through technical studies, pilot projects and governing documents. In addition, the unit is responsible for technical review, industry collaboration and requirements for the connection of production facilities.
In order to be able to strengthen and expand the electricity grid at the rate required to meet the increasing capacity needs in the transition to a fossil-free society, we need to develop new, more climate-friendly and cost-effective designs that are adapted to the Swedish climate. One material that has attracted interest is stainless steel. Partly because it does not require galvanizing as protection against corrosion, and partly because it enables the use of fossil-free steel.
The thesis includes an international analysis of existing structures with stainless steel - both nationally and internationally - with the main focus on power line poles and pipe structures. To what extent is there standardization, what are the advantages and disadvantages of the material for this type of application and how can it be combined with other materials to further strengthen the design. What aspects are particularly important to consider in designs for the Swedish climate.
A final assignment description is developed in collaboration with the supervisor at the beginning of the thesis.
The purpose of the thesis is to provide input to the ongoing work to develop a new climate-friendly and cost-effective pipe pole family with standard poles for the electricity grid.
This assignment is for 1 student (30 credits) or 2 students (15 credits).

About Vattenfall
At Vattenfall, we are committed to enabling fossil freedom. To succeed, as one of Europe's largest energy companies, we must first become completely fossil-free ourselves. But that is not enough. To contribute to a fossil-free society, we need to do more than just focus on sustainable energy production.
Because we are convinced that we need to enable fossil freedom, we need to look at the challenge from a broader perspective than just producing energy in a sustainable way.
Join us on the road to fossil freedom.
As Vattenfall is part of the Swedish critical infrastructure, many of our services are security classified. This means that if this position is classified, the final candidates may be subject to a special security clearance in accordance with the Security Protection Act.
