Vestre Toten Municipality has an exciting opening for a Director of Elementary Education. As Head of Elementary Education, you will play a central role in the development of the municipality’s elementary school programs and become part of the municipal director’s leadership team, with the opportunity to influence the development of the entire municipality.

The Head of Elementary Education has overall responsibility for all elementary school operations in the municipality, including the PP service. We have an organizational structure with close ties between management levels, which fosters good dialogue, effective collaboration, and short decision-making chains.

The municipality has five elementary schools and one middle school. The system serves approximately 1,350 students, employs 270 staff members, and has a net operating budget of around 200 million kroner.

We are seeking candidates with a background in education, training, and experience in school administration, as well as a strong understanding of the operations and development of elementary and middle schools. The role involves responsibility for educational development, administration, finance, and the management of a complex sector. It will therefore be an advantage to be familiar with the school’s framework, opportunities, and challenges from the inside.

The successful candidate will join a stable organization with skilled leaders and staff at all levels.

Key Responsibilities of the Head of Elementary Education

• Together with the municipal director and the leadership team, ensure comprehensive management and development of the municipality.
• Continue and lead long-term educational development efforts, as well as further develop goals and priority areas that contribute to quality, learning, and inclusion in the municipality’s schools.
• Assume overall professional, financial, and personnel responsibility for elementary schools and the PP service.
• Contribute to comprehensive and interdisciplinary collaboration across the municipality’s services.
• Focus on the entire educational pathway from preschool through high school.
• Follow up on national and local policy guidelines and implement policy decisions within the area of responsibility.
• Maintain and further develop collaboration with external stakeholders and partners.
