The Opportunity

Are you passionate about innovation and future-ready technologies? We’re looking for a motivated Production Engineer to help drive digital transformation in our manufacturing processes. This position is part of Hitachi Energy’s HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) business unit, based in Smedjebacken. HVDC technology enables efficient long-distance electricity transmission and interconnects power grids across countries and continents—playing a vital role in the global energy transition.

In this role, you’ll work with cutting-edge technologies such as Digitalization, Automation, Artificial Intelligence, Operator Guidance Systems (hardware and software), and the latest production tools to ensure our factories are equipped for the future.

As a key player in our Production Development Department, you’ll lead development and investment projects focused on implementing new technologies. You’ll become a natural digital leader within the organization, collaborating closely across functions and with external suppliers to bring innovative solutions to life.

How you'll make an impact

  • Driving improvements in factory operations with a strong focus on digitalization, automation, and system development
  • Developing and aligning a Digital Roadmap for the Smedjebacken Factory, in coordination with sister site
  • Leading production development projects, often involving new and emerging technologies
  • Supporting strategic initiatives to improve productivity and production capacity
  • Continuously learning and benchmarking new digital tools, while enhancing existing solutions in areas like Operator Guidance, Automation, and system integration
  • Managing the local IT/OT infrastructure, serving as the key contact for digital systems and connectivity

Your Background

  • You’re curious, proactive, and always eager to learn and take initiative
  • You’re passionate about technology, digitalization, and developing new tools and systems
  • You naturally lead change, by motivating and guiding others to adopt new ways of working
  • You have a solid technical background—either through industry experience or an engineering degree
  • Experience with SAP, MES, IBA, connected machinery, automation, or programming is a strong plus
  • Fluent in both Swedish and English, written and spoken
