Stegra aims to transform the global steel industry by producing green steel, with the ultimate goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions to zero. By using green hydrogen and fossil-free electricity instead of coal, water and heat will be our primary emissions. By 2030, our ambition is to produce 5 million tons of green steel per year in our fully integrated, digitalized and sustainable plant in Boden in northern Sweden - currently under construction.

Work Environment Engineer

The Work Environment Engineer is the representative of the Health and Safety department in the individual operational units of our Boden site. They support the assurance of healthy, safe and efficient operations in all areas and facilities of the organization. Each Health & Safety Engineer will have a specific area that they mainly work closely with, which is listed in the areas further down.

Safety always comes first at Stegra and we are looking for Health & Safety Engineers who share that attitude and who want to help us continue to build a strong safety environment. In this role, you will support the organization with the health & safety and safe and efficient operations in a specific area within the organization. We are currently seeking eight (8) Health and Safety Engineers, one for each of the following areas of Boden's operations:

  • Direct Reduction Plant (direct iron reduction)
  • Melting Plant (part of steel mill) - includes scrap handling, refractory materials
  • Casting (part of steel mill)
  • Hot Rolling Mill (part of steel mill)
  • Cold Rolling Mill (part of steel mill)
  • Galvanizing Line (part of steel mill), including shipping and packaging
  • Hydrogen production plant (electrolyzer)
  • Comprehensive services (all other areas, maintenance, warehousing, etc.)

Responsibilities:

As a Health & Safety Engineer you will play an important role in:

  • Supporting the implementation of the site management system and ensuring that the system is continuously updated and improved
  • Improving workplace safety and related "ways of working" and ensuring the necessary instructions and standards
  • Supporting Stegra's commitment to meet all safety regulations and requirements.
  • Supporting the implementation of Stegra's behavioral safety concept.
  • Support the line organization in fulfilling its health and safety responsibilities.
  • Support the investigation of workplace accidents and injuries, internal follow-up and communication to the relevant authorities.
  • Support the identification of hazards and risk assessment and control measures for activities and/or processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering, occupational health and safety or a related field.
  • Documented experience in a similar role in an industrial or manufacturing environment (heavy or high risk industrial operations, oil and gas, energy, hydrogen, steel mills, iron reduction plants, manufacturing industries, etc.
  • Certified training in ISO 45001 and in-depth knowledge of Swedish national safety legislation and industry good practices
  • Other relevant training depending on areas of responsibility, such as chemical hazards, work environment measurements, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety, ATEX and machine safety standards.
  • Experience in developing and working with digital tools to support and digitize key safety processes
